Alex is a Big Brother! Blake Carver Wright was born just like his older brother in the early AM. He came into this world weighing 7 lbs. 10 ounces and 19 1/4 inches tall. When they took Blake up to the nursery to give him a bath and check him out, all the nurses and staff were in awe of him, as he was the only baby in the nursery that had blonde hair. He came out with hair that many women pay big money trying to get. He sure is a cutie!
Both mom and Blake are doing well. The delivery went much smoother than last time. We had gone to see the mid-wife on Monday, the 11th and they scheduled for us to come to the hospital on Thursday, June 14th if nothing was happening by then so they could induce. However, later that night around 9:30 Kristin started having contractions nearly 5 minutes apart, so I started charting how frequent they were and the duration of the contractions. Once Kristin had been going for an hour we called the mid-wife and she told us to go to the hospital. We got to the hospital around 11:30 pm and then saw a nurse around midnight who ended up admitting Kristin. They had to run some blood tests before they could administer the epidural, so Kristin got her share of going through contractions this time around. But they did finally get an epidural started around 2:00 am and they told us all to get some rest while she continued to dialate. At 3:15, they did administer some Pitocin to help speed up the process, and by 3:45 we were ready to start pushing. Only 30 minutes later out came Blake.
Later that morning, I went home and slept for a couple of hours, then brought Alex back to the hospital with me. Alex was very curious about his new baby brother. When Blake cries, Alex gets all concerned and will pat him as if to say it's okay Blake. The pictures of Alex & Blake together are priceless! We have been working with Alex that if his brother is asleep, he needs to be quiet if he is near him. Alex will say "Quiet" now when we approach Blake until he can see whether Blake is awake or not. Overall, Alex has been amazing "Big Brother" and we look forward to him showing Blake all sorts of new things in the months to come.
